Meet Ms. Brewer
My name is Jane Brewer, and this is my third year as Math Interventionist at Webb Elementary. I have to say, "I love my job!" When I was young, my Math skills didn't develop as fast as my Reading skills. I just said, "I'm bad at Math" and gave up. I spent my elementary and middle school years (1st - 7th) waiting for Math to GO AWAY. But it didn't. In 8th grade I had to face the fact that it was NEVER going to go away and really learn it. Imagine my surprise when I found out I'm not bad at Math at all! I just needed more time and more patience than other kids.
That's what I try and give my students. Time. Patience. The belief that they really CAN do Math. Because I truly believe that if I hadn't given up I might have done a lot more with Math than I have. I will never really know. What I DO know is that I am going to do my very best to make sure nobody goes through what I did, teacher after teacher saying "Why don't you get this?" I'm going to do my very best to make sure nobody gives up; nobody just says, "I'm bad at Math" and sits back waiting for it to go away.
